Peliku 1.1: Tasks, global notes and a better shooting mode
This update is all about making the everyday workflow easier, with proper tasks, global notes, a more useful Dashboard and a big improvement to Shooting mode.
Peliku 1.1 is one of those updates where lots of smaller changes come together and make the whole app easier to use.
We spent a lot of time looking at the little things we were doing every day. Keeping track of tasks, remembering things that weren't linked to a specific video, checking what needed to be done today and using Shooting mode across different devices.
Some parts were already there, but they weren't quite doing enough. Others simply didn't exist yet.
So this update brings proper tasks, global notes, changes to the Dashboard and calendar, and a big improvement to the way Shooting mode works when we're using more than one device.
What's new in Peliku 1.1
- A proper task system
- Global notes for personal and team spaces
- A more useful Dashboard
- Tasks added to the calendar
- Multi-device Shooting mode
- Several mobile and workflow improvements
Tasks are now a real part of the workflow
The old Publication preparation section wasn't really enough for the way we wanted to work. Tasks aren't only something we need right before publishing. They can appear anywhere in production.
Maybe we need to prepare a prop before filming, review a script, make a thumbnail or finish something before a specific date. We wanted those actions to work like actual tasks instead of being limited to one part of the process.
So Peliku now has a more complete task system.
Tasks can have real deadlines
A task can now have a date and a time. That means it can be something we genuinely plan instead of just another item sitting on a list.
Tasks can also be assigned to a member and marked as completed, so it's much easier to see who's handling something and whether it's actually done.
- Assign tasks to a member
- Add a date
- Add a specific time
- Mark tasks as completed
- Keep completed tasks visible
We decided to keep completed tasks visible with crossed-out text instead of making them disappear immediately. Sometimes it's useful to see what has already been done, especially when we're working with someone else.
Tasks now appear where they're useful
A dated task isn't much help if we only see it when we remember to open the project.
So tasks are now connected to the rest of Peliku. They can appear in the calendar, and today's tasks are visible directly from the Dashboard.
We wanted tasks to become part of planning, not just a checklist we had to remember to open.
Global notes are here too
Not every note we write belongs to a video.
Sometimes we need to keep an idea, reminder or piece of information around without creating a content project just to store it.
That's why Peliku 1.1 introduces Global notes.
Unlike notes attached to content, these belong directly to the workspace we're currently using. That can be a personal space or a team space.
We kept them simple
A global note has a title and its content. Notes appear as cards, and we can open one when we need the full detail.
From there, we can copy, edit or delete it.
- Create a note
- Give it a title
- Open it in detail
- Copy its content
- Edit it
- Delete it
Deleted notes don't disappear permanently straight away. They go to the trash first, so we can restore them if we've deleted something by mistake.
The Dashboard is more useful day to day
We also changed some of the information shown on the Dashboard.
The old In progress section has been replaced by Today's tasks. We found that more useful because when we open Peliku, one of the first things we want to know is what actually needs doing today.
We also replaced Recent ideas with Upcoming appointments, using appointments from client follow-ups.
Upcoming appointments are designed not to hide useful information
We didn't want to show an arbitrary number of appointments and accidentally hide something important just because there happened to be a busy few days.
So the Dashboard shows all appointments from the next three days. If things are quieter, it can show up to six upcoming appointments instead.
It's a small detail, but it's the kind of thing that makes the Dashboard more useful when we actually open it in the morning.
The calendar now includes tasks
The calendar is becoming the place where we can see what's actually happening around production.
It already had content dates and appointments. With Peliku 1.1, dated tasks join them too.
Content
Shooting and publication dates stay visible so we can see what's happening with our videos.
Appointments
Client follow-up appointments stay in the same planning view instead of living somewhere completely separate.
Tasks
Dated tasks now appear in the calendar too, including their time when one has been defined.
One planning view
The goal is to understand the workload around production without opening several different sections first.
Shooting mode now works properly across several devices
This is probably the biggest practical change in Peliku 1.1.
We wanted to be able to control a shoot from a computer while using a phone as the prompter. That's a pretty normal setup for the way we actually film.
The problem was that when we connected the same account on both devices, they could both end up behaving like controllers. Which obviously isn't very useful when one of them is supposed to be the prompter.
That's now fixed.
One account, different devices, different jobs
We can now use the computer to control the shooting session while the phone displays the prompter.
This makes Shooting mode much closer to the way we'd actually want to use it during a real filming session instead of requiring awkward workarounds.
The computer can stay in control while the phone does what we actually wanted it to do: become the prompter.
We also spent time fixing the mobile experience
Some of the work in this update is less exciting to describe, but much nicer when we're actually using the app.
We fixed several places where the interface didn't behave well on smaller screens.
- Horizontal overflow has been removed in several areas
- Important actions no longer depend on hover
- Shooting mode actions are easier to use on mobile
- Long titles behave better on smaller screens
Hover-based actions make sense with a mouse. They make much less sense on a phone where there is no hover. So we're continuing to remove those little desktop assumptions from the mobile experience.
A few smaller workflow changes
There are also several changes that don't need a whole section on their own but make the overall workflow more logical.
New content starts in Preparation
When we create a new content project directly, it now starts in Preparation by default.
That makes more sense because we've already decided it's real content we're going to work on.
Content created from an idea keeps the Idea state
When content comes from an existing idea, it keeps the Idea state instead.
This lets the transition from idea to active production stay more intentional instead of automatically pretending the preparation has already started.
Task synchronization is better
We've also improved real-time synchronization around tasks so changes appear more reliably when several people or devices are working in the same space.
We made these changes without throwing away existing data
This update touches several parts of the way Peliku handles planning, so we were careful about how it was introduced.
The changes were designed to stay compatible with existing workspaces and content. We didn't want a new task system to arrive at the cost of existing data.
That meant avoiding destructive migrations and keeping the desktop experience stable while we changed the underlying workflow.
A feature update isn't very useful if getting it means breaking the work people already have in Peliku. A lot of this release was about improving things without doing that.
What Peliku 1.1 changes for us day to day
The main difference is that Peliku now handles more of the work happening around the content itself.
A video still stays at the center of production, but we also have somewhere better to manage the smaller tasks, keep notes that don't belong to a specific video and see what needs our attention today.
The workflow is starting to connect more naturally:
And Shooting mode finally works in the multi-device setup we originally wanted, which makes a real difference when we're actually filming.
And this is only the beginning
Peliku 1.1 isn't about adding one huge feature and calling it done. It's more about making the pieces we already use fit together better.
Tasks now behave more like real planning tools. Notes have somewhere to live outside individual content projects. The Dashboard gives us more useful information when we open it. The calendar brings more of the work together. And Shooting mode works in a much more practical way.
Those changes also give us a better base for the next updates, because Peliku is becoming less about storing information and more about helping us actually move the work forward.
Peliku 1.1 is live. And we're already working on what comes next.
If you're already using Peliku, these changes are available in the app. If you're discovering it, you can try the workflow for yourself.
